Congratulations to all of you who scored 80% and above on the exam; you’re prepared for this advanced seminar on addiction. Your scores are rounded up to 100% and your actual score on the exam is now irrelevant for your course grade. For the rest of you, read on . . .

 

I see from your exam scores that some of you must be very anxious about the outcome and be contemplating whether you will be able to continue in the course. Needless-to-say, exam performance is always less than what I expected, but no problemo! Those scoring below 80% will need to demonstrate mastery of the material through retesting, but the retest will be oral recitation during my regular (Wednesday, 1:00 – 3:30 pm) or extend (Tuesday/Thursday, 3:30 – 4:30+ pm) office hours (and a few short meeting times around noon on select Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are also available if necessary because of scheduling/work conflicts). Knowing each of you from PSY 451, I am confident that you will have little difficulty in improving your knowledge in the weak areas, and I welcome the opportunity to ‘drill you until you get it right.’ I therefore strongly recommend that you DO NOT DROP the course if you feel that you can meet the attendance/participation requirement. So relax and have a great weekend.

 

The mandatory attendance period does not begin until February 5th. Next week we will review the exam material on Tuesday if  requested by students (Those who scored 80% or higher are invited to ‘sleep in,’ although you’re welcomed to attend class.). Thursday we will discuss literature search strategies used to locate articles for your annotated bibliographies (Attendance is recommended for this class session.). Your first reading assignment will also be available (by afternoon on January 31st) at the Jacobs Copy Center and you should read it for the class meeting on February 5th.
